Frequently asked questions

Is Mounjaro available in Ireland?

Yes. It's licensed for weight management and we can dispense it for you in Tallaght once you have a valid prescription.

How is Mounjaro different from Wegovy?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) acts on two receptors, GIP and GLP-1, while Wegovy (semaglutide) acts on one. Both are once-weekly injections; in studies tirzepatide produced slightly greater average weight loss.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

In trials people lost around 20% of their body weight on average at the higher doses over about 72 weeks, alongside diet and activity. Individual results vary.

What's the dosing schedule?

You start at 2.5 mg once weekly and increase in 2.5 mg steps, moving up only when you are ready, to a maximum of 15 mg weekly.

How do I take it?

It's a once-weekly injection under the skin using a pre-filled pen, and needles are included at every dispensing. We'll show you exactly how.

Does it affect the contraceptive pill?

It can reduce how well the pill works around the time you start and each time your dose goes up. Use an additional barrier method for four weeks at those points, and ask us if unsure.

Will the side effects settle?

For most people digestive effects are strongest early and ease as the dose steps up slowly. Tell us if they are hard to manage, we can help.

Is it covered by the medical card or DPS?

No, Mounjaro is currently not covered by the medical card or the Drugs Payment Scheme, so it is a private purchase.

Can I get my prescription sent to you?

Yes. Ask your GP or online doctor to send it by Healthmail to Pharmacy Hub, Tallaght. Call us if they need our address.
